We love General Conference Weekend- it is so nice to stay home, relax, and listen to the messages from the Prophet, Apostles, and other church leaders.
I was trying to think of a way to help the kids stay more focused and pay attention, so about 2 hours before the Saturday morning session I whipped out this activity- our Conference Train! The kids absolutely were enthralled for the first 2 sessions on Saturday and still liked it for the 2 sessions on Sunday- I consider that a big success! I printed out the picture of people we knew would be speaking as well as pictures of popular concepts and things they might talk. We put the pictures on train cars and also made some empty cars to write and draw on for people and concepts I didn't have pictures of. It was a great activity- we'll definitely do it again!
Our kids were so excited to find every one's picture or listen for words we could put up on the train. It was so adorable to see their love for the Prophet and their sweet spirits enjoying listening to him.
Sunday morning we woke up to a wonderful treat- cold weather!!! 68 degrees for us was pretty chilly!
We ate our conference cinnamon rolls outside and enjoyed being slightly chilled. (If only the weather stayed cool- we're already back to upper 80s with sweltering humidity...lame Houston falls)
And the rain and cold scared aware the mosquitoes for just a little bit so we revelled in the opening the doors and turning the ac off!
Here are some talks that stood out for us:
Elder Christofferson's (he sealed us!) The Moral Force of Women
Elder Nielson's (our former Stake President) Hastening the Lord's Game Plan
Elder Holland's (wasn't he always every one's favorite?) Like a Broken Vessel
Sister Stephens Do We Know What We Have?
Elder Eyring Bind up their Wounds
Elder Anderson Power in the Priesthood
Elder Hamilton Continually Holding Fast
and a wonderful talk given by our Prophet, Pres Thomas S Monson "I Will Not Fail Thee, nor Forsake Thee"
Here's how long our train ended up.
And a couple of my favorite pictures
Elder Christofferson's talk on Mothers: Picture of me and Nathan cuddling on the rug
Elder Holland's talk on Mental Health: Picture of a boy throwing up (Nathan didn't quite grasp what he was speaking about so we told him he was talking about when people are sick...)
Elder Dube's talk on Looking Ahead: Nathan hear him mention Pioneers...I think that person is doing something pioneerish
Hope you all had a happy Conference too!
