While it was a struggle getting up to camp-one girl didn't show up and wouldn't answer her phone so we had to leave without her...and the other car driving up wouldn't start as we were leaving, so we tried to jump the car, still wouldn't start, switched cars, then ended up switching cars again...whew...it took an extra 45 minutes but we made it!
I was really worried about being outside in the Houston summer, but I was relieved to know that we were staying in air conditioned rooms (I know...it's not really camping...Chris calls it girls vacation instead of girl's camp). It was so posh...I slept on a regular bed, had a shower in the room I stayed in with 2 other women, ate food made by the cooks in the camp dining hall, went swimming at the camp pool, kept the air conditioning in our room set to 68 degrees (heaven!), and spent a whole lot of time outside dying in the heat while I followed a group of girls around doing "low ropes" (aka team building exercises). I was able to do a trust fall with my group, watch them struggle on the 8 man skis, and watch them try to hoist a car tire over a 13 foot pole. It was fun but soooo hot. We were outside for 4 hours in the hottest part of the afternoon. I thought I would die and I wasn't really doing anything! Poor girls...at least they had fun.
The best part was the princess parade. The girls split up (two groups per cabin) and made dresses out of garbage bags, tape, and whatever else they could find.
This is Cristina...she was one of the models...she looked so cute!
Some of us leaders got in on the action...ours was a little more "modern" then the girls, we went for a Lady Gaga style dress...more fun that way :)This was the leaders dress...I did the shoes :)
It was a late night but (we weren't done with the devotional till 11:30). We had to get up bright and early and eat breakfast and be ready to go on the hike at 7:00 am. I'm too old for that kind of schedule!Luckily, because I had helped with the low ropes the day before...I found out I wasn't needed on the hike! Wonderful! I was planning on leaving a few hours after the hike anyways (I was splitting the time at camp with another leader) so I was able to just go home! It was so much fun to spend time with the girls and see them in a whole new way, but I was ready to go home. I've never left Nathan for such a long time (up till then I had left him for about 3 or 4 hours at one time). Thankfully we have some amazing friends who were able to help while Chris was at school. I was so worried about leaving him, but he had so much fun playing with his friends...he barely missed me at all. When I went to get him I picked him up and he gave me a stiff arm because I took him away from the toys...now that's true love :)
