Thursday
Chris got home at 11:30. Nathan ate and we spontaneously decided to go visit the Menil Collection which is a big collection of Art from one family.
It was pretty cool, they had a huge variety of stuff- but the family really liked surrealism and ancient artifacts (from Italy, Greece, Africa, Alaska, Iraq...) a lot, so that was the majority of the exhibits. I enjoyed the ancient stuff, but honestly, I just don't get surrealism. There were some cool things but Chris and I both had a huge laugh over the more eccentric pieces (a taxidermied horse on the middle of the floor with a sign in it...a rubber hand hanging from the ceiling with all the cut off= except for the middle finger, or a full body suit with pins sticking out...I won't tell you about the one that made us laugh the most--it's too inappropriate to describe on this blog...) Anyways, it was fun to go and see some cool things and be cultured...and it was free!
We then went home and Chris dropped off 3 friends at the airport. After a delicious celebratory dinner of waffles and ice cream (yum yum) we went on a walk, put Nathan to bed, and watched the Cavaliers lose to the Celtics (Chris loved that he didn't feel guilty about watching sports!)
Friday
We started off the morning by going to the gym as a family. It was fun to take Chris to where I go every day. He got to see how nice the YMCA is here (it is seriously a lot better than any other YMCA I've ever heard of). We're excited for the kids pool to open up in 2 weeks!
After Nathan took a nap we headed up to Ikea to look around, but mostly to get our free meal! There was this little survey I took and got 2 free meatball meals (which Chris loves because it reminds him so much of Denmark), it was delicious and the lady serving us actually made a mistake and gave us more food than she was supposed to (the free meal was more a lunch size and she gave us the dinner size...so that was exciting because Nathan loved the meatballs and ate a ton on his own). It was fun to go and pretend that we had money to buy all the stuff we want.
On our way back we stopped at on of our favorite parks while Chris finished writing a paper due that night.
After dinner we headed out to the store to get some medicine for me (and of course we ended up buying more stuff...crazy how that always happens--there was a "meat mania" sale going on, so we are going to learn how to cook spare ribs tomorrow!). I have a hive (yes- hive...not hives....on my back-it's weird) It looks exactly like hives but only in one little spot in the middle of my back on the right side. It's totally random- we can't think of why it's there (I've had hives before from stuff I'm allergic to but I haven't eaten anything weird or changed soap or medicines, but hopefully the medicine helps, my biggest complaint it that it itches!
After Nathan went to bed we organized the living room (things always seem to accumulate there) and then we did a "mini-mental-makeover." We went through each room and said what we wanted to do to each room. It was really fun to talk about our goals for each room.
Saturday
So far Chris has gone to basketball (for the first time in over a month!) and Nathan and I are playing. We're excited for the rest of our break! We have so much stuff planned I just hope we can get to it all before school starts again!
