Memorial Day Weekend 2011

We kicked off our 3 day weekend on Friday night with a family trip to Chipotle before heading to a birthday party for one of Nathan's best friend.  Nathan loved playing at the park, but was not a big fan of the pinata. Oh well...more candy for rest of the kids. He was however a big fan of trying to open her presents...and her pretty princess cake :)

On Saturday Chris took Nathan to basketball and I cleaned the house (I get so much done Saturday mornings now- I forgot how much easier life is with one kid who isn't mobile and still takes a morning nap!) We then headed over to the YWCA Pool Kickoff Party.  We enjoyed playing in the pool and eating some free food!

That night we popped some popcorn, spread out a blanket on the floor, and had a family movie night.  It had been a while since we'd watched 101 Dalmatians, so that was a nice change from Cars (his latest movie obsession.)

Sunday was nice- we went to church and came home- no meetings, no extra stuff..just family time- my perfect Sunday.

Monday morning, after Chris played basketball with the guys at church again...can you tell he loves playing basketball?, we piled in the car and headed over to Discovery Green, a little park/open area in downtown Houston. We've never been before (I don't know why) so it we were excited to check it out. After finding a great parking spot we headed over to play in the fountains.
First Nathan sized up the situation---looks like fun

He was a little apprehensive of the whole experience at first, but he warmed up to it pretty quickly.

He never really did like the fountains when they got super big, but he loved running through them (literally...he would run from side to side trying to avoid the water....hilarious).  He also loved pretending the water was tunnels and crawling under them. He enjoyed kicking and splashing Chris.

Abby and Nathan are such good friends- I love it!

Nathan's latest obsession is watermelon, he can't get enough of it. It's perfect for when we play outside because he doesn't like to stop playing to drink water, but he'll stop to eat watermelon- no dehydration here!

When we were done with the fountains Nathan and Chris headed over to the little lake and looked at all the "Nemos." We then ate lunch at the playground. Both kids promptly fell asleep on the way home.  It was a fun and tiring morning, and we get a wee bit lost trying to get back home...note- it's a good idea to pay attention to the sign by the side of the road- they are really helpful (particularly when the GPS refuses to find the satellite). I don't know how we got "lost"...it is really easy to get back to the highway.  We did find a sketchy part of Houston so that was exciting :)

After nap time we headed over to a birthday swim party for another one of Nathan's friend- we were hoping that all the kids wearing the water wing/floaties would convince Nathan they're cool...no such luck :(  But he was obsessed with the bean bag toss game...and all of Dawson's presents.  We really. really need to work on his party etiquette.

After the party we quickly change clothes and headed over to help our friends move.  Nathan was able to play one last time with his friends while Chris and guys from the ward loaded up the truck (I "supervised"/talked/hung out with the babies.)  During the loading process we realized that Nathan and Avery were missing.  After searching the house Kerry and I split up to search around the complex.  I was just about to go into full-out panic mode(praying, calling the security guard to drive his handy little golf cart around, splitting up the men loading the truck to canvass of the area...) when I rounded a corner to see Kerry walking up with both kids.  They decided to take a nice walk over to the swimming pool together...scary.

Since it was past 8 and Nathan hadn't eaten dinner we finally headed home.  Nathan had a delicious hot dog (his favorite meal) and went to bed. A little while later I headed back over to their place to help clean...apparently I have a really hard time saying goodbye.  We sure are going to miss them!

And that was the end of our great weekend- we sure had a lot of fun!
