Last Saturday was our first beach trip of the year! Nathan was so excited all week long knowing we'd be at the beach with friends!
We headed out in the morning and were the first of our group to get to the beach (we ended up with 8 families so it was a good group!) Unfortunately when we arrived at the beach we were greeted by this...
Yes- that is all nasty seaweed! My first thought was to go home and call everyone else on their way and tell them to turn around, but we started to clear an area inside. Thankfully some people near us saw me in my pregnant state scraping seaweed with Nathan's beach shovel and came over and offered me their rake- bless you dear kind people.
It took a while but we cleared a place for the kids to play, and Chris tried to clear a path to the water. He ended up having to go through seaweed more than 3 feet tall! So gross. The seaweed was still thick in the water, but once you went a ways out (it's pretty flat so you can go pretty far) it was good- and the waves were big so that was fun too!
Nathan and Abby had such a great time.
They played in the sand with friends-
Nathan went "fishing"
(he literally loved this activity. He found a big stick, sat down in the seaweed, and went fishing!)
Abby absolutely loved the water- we had such a hard time keeping her out. She would book it straight to the water and dive in, no need to wait for an adult. That girl has too much spunk!
Nathan wasn't as excited about being in the water, he's more cautious than Abby, but once he learned to jump with the waves he was great!
The men folk played a little football
We ate, talked, spent time with friends, and kept the kids up way past their normal nap time (they'll sleep on the way home right?- wrong!) But we had so much fun! We can't wait to go back...but I think we'll wait till the seaweed is gone :)
After the beach--
We left around 3 expecting the kids to fall asleep and stay asleep...no such luck. Abby slept around 45 minutes and Nathan 30. They woke up as we were near a shoe store Chris wanted to stop at to get some new basketball shoes (his old ones are sooo incredibly bad, he probably needed new shoes about a year ago but we've put it off till now...poor Chris) The kids were awake so we stopped- in swim suits, sand everyone, tired kids and all- we must have been a sight to behold. The kids absolutely loved the shoe store (I don't think they've ever actually been in one before beside the shoe aisle of Target- shows you how often I go shopping...) They loved finding new shoes and "helping dad" try them on. They were hilarious.
We headed home; I quickly bathed the kids (love the beach- hate the mess!) while Chris mowed the yard in record time. We scarfed down some dinner (yeah for pancake mix!) and loaded up the car and headed down to the Adult Session of our Stake Conference which was great...except that our kids were tired and it went about 45 minutes later than planned, so we ended up just leaving "early" (30 minutes late) hoping our kids would sleep on the way home - it's about a 20 minute trip- and sleep longer in the morning. No such luck - Abby feel asleep approximately 3 minutes away from home and Nathan didn't at all, then they both decided to wake up before 7:00 the next morning.
Oh well- it was a crazy, fun-filled day. Not very relaxing but great none-the-less. It definitely makes up for not seeing Chris much during the week to have his full attention on the weekends!

What a fun day! Sounds like it was totally worth the lack of sleep.
