It was really busy (darn end-of-the-year school field trips) and within 10 minutes of being there I'd already lost Nathan...and not the lost where you find them in just a few seconds or even a minute. But after 10-15 minutes of trying to hold back my panic and searching around the fountains, playground, soccer field/green space, and picnic area multiple times I said a prayer and started to look for a police officer terrified of the pedophile who'd taken my kid. Thankfully I walked past the playground one last time and noticed a shoe poking out high up near a slide and found him. Crisis averted!
Once our friends came Nathan and Abby were much easier to keep and eye on and things were much better :)
Thankfully most of the students left within a hour or so after we got there and it made it a lot more fun (and easier to keep my eye on the kids!) Nathan got a kick out of seeing a "cowboy on a horse" (a mounted police officer), dancing to the live band playing, and chasing his friends around. Abby made friends with all sorts of teenage girls who kept telling me how cute she was...if only she had a bit more stranger-danger fears...she was still fearless and had a lot of fun trying to escape my sight (and making a middle-school asian boy cry when she ate his chips!)
As I was packing up the kids one lady came up to me and asked me if I ever found my kid- she'd seen me looking for him 3 hours before. My initial reaction was to say "Nope- lost my kid, couldn't find him, but gosh darn it I paid for 3 hours of parking so to heck with my son. I'll find him later. Thanks for your genuine concern at helping me find him, for the past 3 hours." Instead I graciously said that I'd found him and everything was good.
All things considered it was a great day and we made it back to the car 2 minutes before our parking meter ran out- perfect timing!
