Yesterday was our last bed bug treatment (hopefully ever!) We thought we were free of the nasty creatures until a bed bug sniffing dog came to our house and signaled otherwise. Grrr. Instead of the chemical treatment we did last time (which was horrendous) they did a heat treatment. Apparently the bugs like the temperature warm, but will die at 120-140 degrees...so our apartment needed to get super hot. We had to take out everything that had the potential of being ruined, melted, or damaged with the heat (including food, pictures, anything with wax). The prep wasn't as bad this time, but it still wasn't easy. The paper detailing what we needed to do said all string instruments had to be removed...it dawned on us at 8:00 at night that pianos are just that. So Chris quickly met and made friends with some neighbors and convinced them to let us put our piano in their place. He then got our other neighbors (with whom our only interaction has been to tell them to turn down the music and the drumming) to help move it.They kindly obliged. The paper also said to take out anything made of laminate wood- to bad that's almost every piece of furniture we own...so we left it all and prayed it would survive (thankfully it did).
We had to be out of the house from 9-5 yesterday (then come home to turn on the air conditioning/open windows and leave again till 8). My plan was to just fill out day with fun things- the gym, parks, picnic, Target, more parks, and Chick Fil A for dinner.
Abby had other plans-
Monday night she could not sleep- she had a super high fever. It was heart breaking to see her. So instead of our busy fun-filled plans our amazing friends let us come to their house with 30 minutes notice (sick kid and all) and stay there all day. Thank you so much! I love having great friends.
At 5 we went back to our place- it was way hot, but not as bad as I thought it would be. With a bunch of fans, the a/c blasting, and windows wide open our place cooled down. When we got back from dinner around 8 the house wasn't too bad (it kind of felt how hot it is you get back from a vacation and the a/c has been off). We got the kid to bed, got some friends to help move the piano back, and got all of our food and other things out of the cars. It made for a long day but hopefully we're done with this forever.
...And I took Abby to the doctor today- her fever is still going strong-turns out the she has a nasty ear infection in one ear. Poor girl. At least now we have some medicine for her.
