Yesterday was going really well- I was being super productive and life was great. I had plans and everything was working out amazingly. It was one of Nathan's good friend's birthday yesterday (Happy Birthday Caitlin!), so he made her a card and we went to quickly drop it off, then go about our busy evening filled with grocery shopping, dinner, watching Chris's basketball team play, then setting up for our Young Women's Spaghetti Dinner (all you Maplewood 2nd Warders should come- it will be awesome!). Instead Nathan decided to get his finger smashed in a door, leading to a recommendation from his doctor's office to make a "quick" trip to the ER for some x-rays.
I hate the ER.
Poor Nathan was hysterical. Upon entering the ER I stood in line with both kids, one screaming wanting me to hold him and the other running off in every direction thus by necessity I had to hold her...I looked like mother-of-the-year material for sure. Good thing there were a bunch of people ahead of me in line with real emergencies, like mild fevers, ear aches, colds...GET A PEDIATRICIAN PEOPLE!
So we waited. Thankfully Chris was almost done with his work and came over (he works across the street from the Children's Hospital). So, long story short, we waited, then moved to another room, waited some more, moved to one more room, waited some more, got x-rays, waited some more...catch the theme of our evening?
The one cool part was that our "attending" was one of Chris's classmates who he did most of his rotations with...she now works in the ER so that was exciting to see her doing her PA thing for real. She saw Nathan's name on her computer as her patient before we got to her so she was waiting for us- pretty neat.
This all started at 4:00 and by 6:15 we still hadn't gotten x-rays, so dinner was real healthy (Abby and Nathan like to eat by 5:30). I don't know how many fruit snacks Abby had or how many veggie straws the kids ate between them...but it was a lot. Thankfully Chris had a little clementine in his bag so dinner wasn't completely unhealthy. Food and Chris's iphone were the only things that saved me from a mental breakdown.
Nathan's x-rays turned out to be fine- it's jut going to be a nasty cut and bruise. So they bandaged him up and then we were out the door (after waiting a while for the discharge nurse to come...). We then had to drop Chris off at his car (he parks and rides the train into work) and then we finally headed for home- at 8:00. Poor Abby fell asleep in the car. Chris completely missed his basketball game, and I was an hour late going to set up for the dinner.
But Nathan will be okay, we're all okay, everything worked out- so we're grateful.
I just don't want to do that again for a long time.

Oh I hear ya lady. Regan sliced his head open a few months ago and even though the ER was not busy at all, maybe one other person there, and I was carrying a 3 year old with blood dripping out of his huge bandage on his head we had to wait a crazy long time to get all checked in and get stitches. No fun. No fun at all. I'm glad its not broken though and that Nathan is doing well.
I am glad he is okay. That sounds like misery. Crazy how fast the direction of the day can change!
