Lesson learned

Our computer decided that it no longer wanted to function.  Thankfully we have a super duper smart friend who fixed as much as he could.  Good news- we didn't have to buy a whole new computer! hooray! Bad news- our back up drive wasn't working right and we lost all but 391 of our pictures since April 19th 2012I'm devastated. Thankfully any pictures I've put on this blog are safe and secure online, but everything else is gone.  Elise's whole life cleared right off our faulty, broken, messed up hard drive.  This has been a rough experience for me because I feel like if I don't take a picture then the experience never really happened.  My parents used to make fun of me in high school when I'd snap a picture and say "I'm making a memory!"
Pictures are my memories in so many ways- it's how I remember.  My pictures are honestly one of the things I value most. You know those questions of what are your most valuable possessions? Or, there's a fire and you can only grab 3 things, what do you take? Besides grabbing my kids and our file box of important papers, my camera and computer would probably be next. So lesson learned- Back up often.
But even though I should have been better about backing up all of our files it is nice to know that this little blog has saved some of my most precious memories and that they are not lost forever.  It may take me a while to download them all back so I can get them saved and stored in a place where I can access them, but I will still have a picture of the first time I held my sweet baby Elise- I have the first time we were a together as a family of 5.  I have Christmas and Easter, funny videos and baseball games.  I have cute moments in the pool and preschool activities, birthdays and Rodeos, friends and growth stats.
So anyway- I am so grateful that this blog, our family journal, has been able to save and secure our family history. That even though thousands of pictures we had are gone we still have so many of the moments that really matter. Here's just a few of my favorites from the past week-

Now, everyone go back up your files.
