Beach Camping

When a friend asked if we wanted to go beach camping I jumped at the chance- what could be more fun than camping, with friends, right next to the water?
We came up with this great plan- all the moms and kids would head down early, set up camp, get dinner going and have a great time till all the dads got off work and carpooled down together.  It was a great plan- what could possibly go wrong with 3 women,(all nursing a baby) and 8 kids setting up camp?
It started off so well.  I was in charge of driving the sleeping kids car; within 15 minutes of leaving all 4 kids in my car were out- perfect.

An hour later we pulled up to the ferry and I woke them all up.  They loved looking out at the ships and saw a few dolphins.  Unfortunately when I took out my camera to take pictures it beeped at me- I forgot the memory card...so my phone pictures are all I have to document such an exciting trip :(

Things then began to take a turn for the worse.  The beach was supposed to have bathrooms, after driving up and down, and up and down again we couldn't find any.  So we picked a spot and set up camp.
Turns out it was cold, and super windy, and all the kids immediately wanted to get in the water- unfortunately the sun was setting and we had to get the tents up (thankfully all the tents were pretty easy to get up, but the wind made it a bit more difficult), babies were crying (Elise was the winner at almost 2 hours of straight crying), and everyone was getting dirty.
Once all the tents were set up we tried to start a fire, but the wind was not on board with that plan.  The kids ate some dinner while we waited for the men to arrive and save our pitiful party.  By the time the guys came the fire was slowly coming along, but really struggling- Chris got in roaring in no time- darn boy scout skills showing me up- so the warmth was nice, but the smores and banana boats were even better!

My kids went to bed so incredibly easy! I couldn't believe it.  Abby actually feel asleep as her and I were waiting for Nathan to go to the bathroom- she was so exhausted.  The other two had no problems going to bed too- it was wonderful! A couple hours later when we headed to bed Nathan woke up for a second and stood up but quickly went back to bed.  Abby woke up a few minutes later a bit disoriented but Chris quickly got her right back to sleep- and then everyone slept great.
Except me.
The wind was sooo loud! The rustling of the tent was ridiculous! I couldn't take it! I think over the whole night i got about 1 to 1 1/2 hours of sleep. I have no idea how everyone else slept so well.
The kids slept till almost 7 (better than they do at home sometimes!).  While I was dead tired it was so nice to already be at the beach!

After a delicious breakfast the kids quickly wanted to get in the water.  We played for a few hours than packed up, ate lunch, and headed home.  The kids loved the ferry again, and I love that it's free!

I don't think my kids or our stuff has ever been dirtier- it's been weeks since we went but I swear I'm still finding sand in random places throughout our house and car- but we had so much fun and even though it was a tiny bit stressful it was worth it! I'm excited to go again...and have Chris there the whole time :)
