Broken

One evening Abby was jumping on the trampoline, attempting to do flips like Nate, when she landed kind of funny.  She cried a bit and said her arm hurt, but it didn't seem too bad.  When Chris got home later he checked it out and decided that if it was still bothering her in the morning I should bring her in. She got a little blanket sling and was pretty happy the rest of the night.

The next morning she was still having some issues so off to the doctor we went.  Since Chris works in orthopedics (he does hip and knee replacements) it was fabulous.  No appointment, just walking back to the office, getting an x-ray, having the hand doctor check the results, and boom- off to the casting room.  No wait, no hassle.  I did feel a tiny bit bad for all the people patiently waiting but there's got to be at least one perk of having a PA husband!

The break was so tiny it technically wasn't even visible on the x-ray, just the "fat pad sign" was visible suggesting there was a break in there somewhere.

Abby did great the entire time-
Happy at the x-ray

Happy at the casting

Extremely happy with her pink cask! (any idea what her favorite color is?)

The cast did not stop this girl from doing anything.  What she lacks in body control she makes up for in crazy energy and determination.  The cast quickly become her unintentional weapon and she frequently took out small children or made too much contact with Chris's face :) Thankfully she truly didn't try to ever be mean with it, she just kept forgetting she had a permanent baseball bat for an arm. She was back on the trampoline the next day, going on monkey bars, climbing tall things, jumping of the couches...it was hilarious taking her to the park because other parents were so concerned for her safety and I just let her do her own thing.

She was supposed to have the cast on for 3 weeks, but two weeks  (and a couple days) after it was on we were supposed to leave for Boston.  I had specifically booked a hotel with a pool and she was devastated that she wouldn't be able to go swimming, so the day before we left I brought her back to the office, got some x-rays, and the cast came off! (once again- no wait, no hassle, and the kids were loved on by the ladies in the office, and we get to see Chris in the middle of the day...it's the best way to go to the doctor)
Abby once again did amazing. She really is such a trooper.

They did give her a little sling to wear for 3 weeks...it lasted about 10 minutes.

We're grateful the first broken bone was relatively easy and simple, and that Abby did amazing through everything, and hopefully it will be a long, long time before we need to do this again!

Loved your comment about the unintentional weapon:) Jovie has been a hip spica cast for 12 weeks and everyone is always worried they will hurt her or their kids will hurt her. But in actuality, I'm always watching her to make sure she doesn't ram her legs into someone else, haha. She has definitely gotten the boys good a few times:)
