Last week preschool was at our house- I was in charge of teaching about the letter Q and crescents.
Our focus was on the words Queen, Quack, Quiet, and the shape of the Crescent Moon...
We made Queens (on the back side was a small-case q in the shape of a duck saying quack)
Made Q's and Crescents out of play-dough
We also read a lot of books. Q is for Duck (funny book, I recommend it), Little Quack (also good), and Good Night Moon (looking for crescent moons), and some more I can't remember.
The best part was that Abby had to be doing exactly what the boys were doing. When we read a book we all sat in front of the couch- without fail Abby followed the boys over and squished herself in between them. The boys were getting frustrated because she kept sitting right on their laps but once they scooted over it was all good- it made her so happy!
Did you know that there is really no child appropriate snack foods that
start with Q or are crescent shaped? I was stumped. So I went really
unhealthy and we decorated sugar cookies in the shape of Q's, crescents,
and ducks (quack!). The highlight of the cookie decorating was definitely the sprinkles :)
We also played a Quiet/Loud game. I had two different signs and when they saw the word quiet they had to sing quietly, and when they saw the loud sign they had to sing loud. Pretty simple but they loved it! I felt a little sacrilegious when they chose to sing I Am A Child of God and they were screaming it soooo loud, but it was cute that of all the songs that was their first choice :)
We had a lot of fun learning- I'm so glad that Nathan is part of this little group. I was hesitant at first because he's quite a bit younger then the other boys but it's been so incredibly good for him!
