Unbelievable- both good and bad

Remember how I just complained that we were visiting the doctor too much in the past 2 months...well we're at it again.  Here's the good and the bad from our TWO doctor appointments today.

GOOD:
Nathan had a doctor appointment with his gastroenterologist this morning.  We pulled him off one of his medicines a couple months ago and now he's just on one- and things are going really well right now. So good in fact that we're going to do another colonoscopy in July and depending on the results see if we can take him off his medicine---as in it's possible he getting better! I'm definitely not banking on it, but the doctor gave me a little glimmer of hope today which feels like a first, usually I always feel so discouraged.  I'm trying not to be too excited about it though...if I plan on this being a part of Nathan's life forever then it will only be amazing if it goes away, not discouraging and depressing if it never does.

BAD:
This morning when getting Nathan dressed I noticed Nathan had a bit of a rash on his chest and back.  I called Chris, he said to monitor it.  I thought it was probably just a rash from having strep (Abby got a rash from hers, apparently it's a "classic" indicator of step in kids...).  The only thing weird is that she got hers before she started medicine, Nathan has been on antibiotics for a week now.  Strange.  We headed to Nathan GI appointment, and the doctor takes one look at Nathan and asks what happened to him...by now the rash has spread all over his chest, stomach, back neck, face and legs with some spots getting really big. I said he just had strep; the doctor asks what medicine he's taking and I tell him amoxicillin.

His response: I'm not a pediatrician, but I'm pretty sure that's an allergic reaction. Don't give him any more medicine till you see his doctor.
Me: oh.
Doctor K: You need to go see the doctor- tell her I said you need to be seen as soon as possible.
Me: silence
So we finished up with the GI doctor, call his pediatrician, they say to just come in and they'll try to fit us in (unfortunately I was only planning on 1 doctor visit and was not prepared with enough food and entertainment for 2, one of them just waiting till they can squeeze us in...) After an hour wait we finally saw the doctor.  I tell her what's happening, she looks at the chart and starts counting and says
Doctor H: Dang it- it's perfect timing.
Me: What?
Doctor H: He's definitely allergic to penicillin.

So she gave us some samples of some other medicine (dear sweet doctor didn't want me to have to go the pharmacy again...bless her heart) to finish up his last 3 days because he still isn't totally better yet from the strep.  We head home, Abby crashes in the car- no need for lunch right? Oh well, now we know about the medicine- thankfully it's not too big of a deal, it's a pretty common medicine allergy.
All I'm hoping is that we don't have to go to the doctor's office for a while...this whole once a week doctor visits are getting to be too much!
