Boston Vacation- Day 3

On Day 3 we tried to do as much of the Freedom Trail as possible.  We started the trip on the Train- much to the children's delight and headed up to Bunker Hill.

Chris and I climbed to the top of the monument while my parents took the kids to the museum.  It was a pretty steep climb but the views were beautiful.

We walked from there to the USS Constitution- the walk over took us through a gorgeous part of town.  We looked up the housing prices for the area, and let's just say my dreams of living in Boston someday will never include the Bunker Hill Neighborhood!

Since it was Memorial Day the soldiers were closing the ship early to fire off some cannons so we barely made it on with enough time to look around before the start of the cannon show.

Elise however refused to move from this spot for a good 4 minutes.  She was so content just sitting there, the soldiers were not amused by her cuteness and really wanted us off!

We continued on our journey stopping for ice cream at Emacks and Bolios- apparently a super good Boston ice cream store.  I was more concerned that Abby had to go to the bathroom and the one inside the store was only for employees, so he told me to go to a more public bathroom around the corner.  So I'm running with Abby trying to make it in time only to find the doors all locked up.  Happy Memorial Day. We rush back and I demand she get to use the bathroom in the shop.  She barely made it. Oh the joys of only sort of potty trained children.

We stopped by Copps Hill Burying Ground- which the kids didn't really appreciate (except Nate loved the skulls on a lot of the tombstones).

Then headed over to Old North Church.

We ate some lunch at the Paul Revere Mall (as is the National Mall, not like a shopping place, I did overhear one tourist ask where the stores were...)

Chris had to get to the afternoon session of his conference so he took off while we slowly made our way back to the hotel for nap time.  We realized we were passing the famous "Mike's Pastry" on our way out so we quickly gave Chris a call and he was right near the shop and got in line for us to join him.

It was a blessed and wonderful place- and the official start of my cannoli obsession!

We met back up with Chris in Little Italy that night for dinner and went to a fabulous Italian Restaurant.  It was so good!

We then walked through the Holocaust Memorial, which I found I was unprepared to explain to my kids.  It was sobering and a beautiful memorial though and I am glad we stopped by to see it.

My dad's flight left super early the next morning so the kids had to say good bye that night.

Thanks for coming to see us Dad!!!
